It’s prime wedding planning time and that means brides, grooms and wedding planners up and down the country are in the midst of viewing, booking and organising for 2018 and 2019. We thought we’d lend a helping hand and put together our list of top wedding trends to look out for in 2018. Get your Pinterest board at the ready, and prepare to be inspired.
Food and entertainment
The 3-course wedding breakfast is a long-held tradition. But modern couples are now often choosing to ditch tradition and go for a more casual affair – whether that’s a fish and chip van, street food or gourmet burgers – it’s all about eating the food you love rather than sitting down for a formal meal. This trend is set to continue and grow into 2018 – so get booking. If you need some more inspiration, check out our post on alternative wedding breakfast ideas.
While a disco and a buffet are nice, couples are now looking to shake things up a bit with a bit of alternative entertainment. Encourage a bit of (hopefully friendly) competition between your in-laws with some games at your wedding reception. You could include games on the tables – like dominoes or jenga (just watch the drinks) – or even have croquet, hoopla or if you’re feeling particularly sporty, badminton. A great way to keep kids and big kids entertained! There’s more great ideas for wedding reception games here.
Marble and copper
Marble (or marble effect, marble’s expensive!) and copper are big trends at the moment in homeware, so it makes sense that they’re also cropping up in weddings too. Centerpieces, cutlery, dinnerware, table accessories – this elegant combination will bring a trendy and stylish element to your wedding. And you can probably get them pretty cheap too – copper and marble are everywhere in supermarkets and homeware stores at the moment, so start stocking up now! If you’re not a fan of copper, you could swap it out for rose gold.
It might be the colour associated with cold, but it’s a hot choice right now. There are so many beautiful hues to choose from if you go for blue as your accent colour, and it looks great with copper and marble. Go for a light, muted blue for a modern look or a navy or a royal blue for a more traditional or vintage vibe.
What to wear
For the dress-wearers – whether that’s the bride, bridesmaid, or the guests – pearls are coming back. So raid your nan’s jewellery box for earrings, necklaces and bracelets. They can also be a really nice addition to headpieces, hair accessories, dress embellishments and even rings. A great way to look classy and bring a little vintage charm to the occasion. We’re on board!
That’s right, capes. They’re not just for the Avengers. Particularly handy for keeping warm during a winter wedding, this trend is not only fashionable, but practical. For the bride, you can opt for a nice white lacy or furry number as a nice accompaniment to your dress without looking too bulky. For the guests, capes are in for 2018 anyway, so even if you buy for the wedding, you’ll be able to wear it more than once. Winner!
Of course! A unique alternative to a hotel or guest house, tipis are set to bring luxury glamping to more and more weddings in 2018. They’re cute, cosy and romantic for guests and the happy couple alike.
